Does roblox have voice chat3/10/2024 ![]() The irony of releasing this product without good developer controls feeling tone deaf is not lost. When will the API for voice chat come out so that developers can better manage players and users?Īdding more users to a feature that is a pain to develop around is aggravating. Is there going to be an update to streamline this system or have it use less memory?Ĭhat with Voice Developer Beta Announcements Is there going to be expanded capability on the Audio Filters? We already have a handful of effects available which can do a variety of things, but in many cases we are limited by the device memory – and sometimes the device doesn’t have enough memory for any kind of audio effects, leading to an endless stream of sad failure beeps when the audio system flushes its buffer. Is this going to be rectified at some point? Many developers are biding their time waiting for Roblox to re-enable public (or more easily share-able) music uploads, and official word on whether or not that toggle will be flipped would be very welcome. They contacted their music artist, but such music artist had either left Roblox altogether, did not have the time or patience to learn how Roblox’s privacy system worked, or were unwilling to share their original audio files for the developer to re-upload themselves. When we experienced the Audio Privacy update, a lot of developers suddenly found that music in their workspace, music that they had permission to use from the audio creator, who uploaded the music on their own account – was suddenly unavailable. ![]() ![]() There are two main concerns that I have, however. I’m excited to learn that there are Audio API updates coming soon! There are some audio features that I have been very patient to one day hear about, such as the ability to listen for someone starting a voice message (with something like VoiceChatService:MessageStarted() and VoiceChatService:MessageEnded() as an example) and being able to respond appropriately. Until then, a heartfelt thank you for your ongoing patience and for continuing to provide feedback. We are excited to release these APIs in the future and listen to what you and your fellow developers will create! In the coming months, we will provide additional updates on the future of multimedia on Roblox, including our progress on your Audio APIs. I’m happy to say that Roblox’s new Audio APIs are the first steps toward providing you with powerful new ways to control audio, including selecting audio sources, adding dynamic effects, including spatial effects and volume control, create audio visualizations, and much more.ĭevelopers that integrate our updated Audio APIs will be able to fine-tune their experiences with more opportunities to set fun limits on range, team audiences, and of course, customize the Chat with voice feature’s user interface. Simply put, we have leaned into our core value of setting a long-term vision to ensure that these next-generation APIs support user safety, perform well across all devices, and enable developers of all skill levels to create awesome sounding audio in their experiences. We have also been relentless in ensuring that our work is compatible with new technologies, such as Real Time Facial Animation and Generative AI. Second, in the course of our work on Chat with voice, we saw an opportunity to give the entire Audio API a significant upgrade. Since Chat with voice has been in Beta, we have learned a lot about how users speak on our platform, how audio performs across various devices, and how moderation can be most effective. Ensuring the best possible voice quality and performance for everyone remains a top priority. One question we have heard from you is, why has this taken so long? The simple answer is that this work is challenging and takes time to do it the right way.įirst, keeping the Roblox platform safe and civil for all age groups is a fundamental priority for us. ![]() We’re making these updates with the benefit of feedback from developers, learnings from the beta, and with an eye towards the future state of the platform – not just solving today’s problems but potential problems in the future. Over the next few months, you will see updates on multimedia on Roblox, including progress on Audio APIs. I wanted to share more details about the road ahead, and how we are incorporating suggestions from the community into our upcoming Chat with voice and Audio API rollouts. I am TheRealMotorbikematt, Senior Product Manager helping lead the development of future multimedia capabilities developers can include in their Roblox experiences.
